Help [Oct. 7th, 2014|11:16 pm]
Hoipolloifn
It's been awhile and most of my LJ friends and communities are gone or inactive for very long periods of time. I tried searching for local members and communities but all I got was a Google Search, which is fine but not what I want.

Anyone want to point me in the right direction to find some new communities and journals to read? I just don't seem to be able to find the old search feature. I guess I have been away way too long.

Thanks in advance. :)

Perfect weather.  Some one else's nice grass to hang out barefoot in since my yard is in rough shape. Lots of Hoi polloi playing on the smartphone.

Not bad for a Tuesday.

Robin Williams [Aug. 12th, 2014|06:10 pm]

[mood |sadsad]

I choked up watching Conan last night when they announced and responded to the horrible loss of Robin Williams. Seeing how much he affected them made what he has done for everyone else that much more real and I cried a little. My heart is still broken over this. I am absolutely shocked and angered about this. It was way way too soon for us to lose this wonderful person.

I am not angry with him or anyone that contributed to his depression. I am angry with the world. The world let one of the most talented and loving human beings slip through our fingers. We are letting a lot of stuff and people slip through our fingers. Our country here is falling apart because we are letting ourselves be divided by hate and fear and greed.

Our planet is falling apart because we ignore the effects we have with our globalization of our economy and our "values". Instead of working with the world we are trying to bend the people of the planet to our will.

Our Police that are supposed to protect us are being militarized against the citizens and not to protect our borders. If we were in Mexico with drug gangs attacking towns and citizens I am sure we would need this kind equipment and tactics from the police, but this is America and I haven't seen a need for it. All it does is get us dead kids, dogs, homeless people and a population in fear of the police instead of respecting them.

It's not a huge shock that someone who used laughter and love to mask his pain couldn't take it anymore. I am sure we will never know the reason he decided he couldn't stay in this life anymore but the strong feelings I have for leaving society behind because I have lost faith in make me sympathize with whatever it was he was feeling.

Losing Robin Williams should have never happened, and neither should have the police shootings in the headlines recently, nor the blockade of Gaza, nor the rocket attacks into Israel, nor the rape culture, nor the horrors in Syria, Africa, Ukraine, or the police firing tear gas into someones yard in order to get them to stop protesting (from their own freaking yard), etc.

We all need to take responsibility and start being good to each other as well as ourselves and all living beings or we are gonna end up burning this whole thing down around us. *See the commercial about the Simpsons Marathon for a visual of the world falling down around us while we aren't paying attention*

Dear Politicians,

Thanks for FINALLY getting off your asses and getting some shit done. I am not a fan of the individual mandate, but I am glad it only took us a few decades to get this moving forward finally.

Now, can you PLEASE get over yourselves and start talking about the substance of what needs to be done and drop the fraking political capital crap. The reason we are so messed up these days as a country (yes I still love America, so move on) is because of the disease of selfishness. It affects every tax bracket, but it is over running the top brackets and therefore affecting the politicians who seem to have forgot that they work FOR THE PEOPLE.

I am glad they finally are setting the framework for fixing one of the biggest problems we have today, but I am worried that they will jump ship if their political capital starts to slip. They have got to realize that the public is getting pissed because of the stench of B.S. that continues to come from each side of the govt. Doesn't really matter if it is Republicans or Democrats, each of them take "turns" listening to the people and getting the job done (even if it is half assed) when they should both be doing that 100% of the time. Not just around election time, and stop worrying about what will get you elected next time around. If you keep that crap up we are going to start voting new people in on both sides every fraking election until we find someone who actually works for the people and does what they say they will as soon as they are in office.

Stop spending so much time hunting for votes an money for your next election and start doing your god damn jobs. Please.

We need our banks to behave, kill all title loan places if you can' get them to behave. We need a better health insurance system, and to improve on the "the best health care system in the world". We need to stop fighting wars in countries that we don't belong in and work more on our security and position in the world. We need JOBS and cleaner energy and there is NO reason at all we can't work on both at the same time. I mean really? Is this stuff that hard to see? Of course it isn't going to be easy to work on all this stuff, but is fighting about it doing us any good? Fuck no, it's dividing the country and driving people crazy on all freaking sides. Keep it up and see how long it takes before new political parties start showing up with some clout.

Here's a nice to do list for you:
Poverty
Banks
Food/Farms
Energy
Health Care
Health Insurance (cause they do work together, but they need worked on separately)
Environment
Education
Debt (National and personal)
Jobs

Just to name a few. Thanks and have a nice day.

Now get your asses in gear

Since no one can really come up with a good number [Sep. 14th, 2009|10:48 pm]

Got into a discussion with a die hard republican and he insists there was more than 75,000 there. I say maybe 90,000 on the high side. But since the media is failing my search for actual numbers is extremely disappointing, I found this:

http://www.wmata.com/rail/disruption_reports/archived_service_reports.cfm

It shows counts of riders of the rail and bus lines which during normal days is the easiest way to get to the Capitol Mall in Washington. It even shows the numbers from the Inauguration and other large events/concerts. All you need is a date too compare with actual numbers from past events.

I feel much better now. Still fucking disappointed as fuck with the media. The only numbers you can really find are the ones from the crazy websites that are far from trust worthy.

I really hope people make up their own minds now that we have a president that will listen and work for us and ignore most of the media.

I watch MSNBC daily and I am disappointed with them as well at the moment.

I support Healthcare reform and the public option to help reign in prices. But I am a little concerned about requiring people to purchase insurance and fining them if they don't. I think if a person chooses to not carry health insurance it is their right. They should have to deal with and pay full prices for services and prescriptions as a result. Unlike Auto Insurance, not carrying health insurance primarily effects them. Unless they forgo treatment and make other people sick they shouldn't be fined, they should just have to deal with the financial downfall when and if they get sick.

There has to be a better way to deal with those who don't get insurance even though they can afford it then requiring it, and fines shouldn't be administered unless they cause an outbreak of something or get something contagious and don't get treatment to treat and contain it. Depending on the severity of the illness, criminal charges may be sought? This way or some other way other than fining everyone who doesn't participate will make those who's choices actually affect others responsible for their actions after the fact, as is done in everything else in our society.

We need drastic change in this part of our society and economy, but please don't reach to far. This is still a free country and the best one in the world. Let's keep it that way.
